Women of Vancouver House Question the Price of Rossland Morality.
Rossland has this week been presented with an account of a singular compact between the town and certain women from whom money is collected with great regularity, though protection is afforded with rather less dispatch.
A woman having been carried injured across the threshold of Vancouver House, Stella Heatley closed her ledger and sought an answer from the authorities. The city complaint was put aside; the city’s demand for money was not.
Upon the wet street Mr. John Kirkup was asked what, precisely, the payment purchased. The reply was plain enough. It bought neither safety nor a hearing, and the women returned to make an order of their own.
The whole account, with the persons concerned and the circumstances at McGregor Terrace, is contained in the present eleven-page illustrated number.
